This article draws on the work of Murray Bowen, one of the fathers of modern family therapy. It outlines active strategies you can adopt in relating with your family of origin to optimise relationships. This approach complements that of Hellinger quite well. All MBSC students should work through the approaches outlined in this article. It will give a much better understanding of family systems as well as improving your own family relationships.

Lamid Vovnik: Letting go of being a helper

Our need to help can be quite destructive. It can be driven by unconscious incapacity to tolerate witnessing someone else’s suffering or a narcissistic need to build our own sense of importance. Or our helping can simply be poorly judged. This article helps us to find attitudes orient our helpfulness so that it is more likely to be of benefit to both ourselves and others.
